What You'll Do

We need a highly motivated, exceptional database administrator with an operational mindset to maintain the database by identifying and solving database requirements and supporting users. You will help in planning/upgrading and perform maintenance activities on databases through its lifecycle. Using your deep knowledge of database technology and strong analytical skills and background, you will identify the root cause and provide long-term fixes for the issues. You will use your coding ability to automate Operational tasks.

You will also:

  • Identify database requirements and recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications to clients.

  • Perform DB installations, upgrades, operational tasks such as backup/recovery, cloning etc

  • Monitor and optimize database performance

  • Plan for backup and recovery of database information

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.

  • Resolve database, systems and infrastructure-related issues

  • Support database functions by designing and coding utilities.

  • Managing and monitoring data replication

Who You'll Work With

We are a part of the Database & Replication Services team, an exciting group comprising of highly experienced and motivated database architects, engineers, and developers that support business-critical database systems for Cisco IT. Our team is engaged in developing the next generation cloud-based database service that would be highly scalable, performant, and available to meet the requirements of the ever-changing needs and complexities of the business. We support various database & middleware technologies and applications such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle E-business Suite, etc as well as Big Data (Hadoop) platform.

Who You Are:

  • BA/BS and 8+ years experience working in Database Operations

  • You have expert knowledge in designing and maintaining one or more of the following databases with a deep knowledge in at least one of them: Oracle, Cassandra, Mongo, and PostgreSQL.

  • You possess a deep understanding of database, middleware and infrastructure technologies and a strong architectural mindset and operational background.

  • You have experience in infrastructure automation. Writing a script should come as second nature to you.

  • You have a strong customer focus and positive can-do attitude who strives to build relationships and values partnerships.

Desired Skills:

  • Hands on experience in DB installations, upgrades, operational tasks such as backup/recovery, cloning etc

  • Experience with disaster recovery, high availability and data security for sensitive data

  • Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability

  • Experience analyzing issues holistically, from the application tier through the database, down to the storage

  • Experience resolving database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues.

  • Awareness of emerging technologies and approaches in IT

  • Proven track record of automating tasks.

  • Application development skills using Python, Shell, Java, etc would be desirable

  • Ability to be a standout colleague capable of high performance and flexibility in a dynamic working environment

  • Ability to take ownership and act with a high sense of urgency

  • Open Source/Nosql experience is a plus
