Hardware Quality Engineer

San Francisco

Cisco Meraki is searching for a Hardware Quality Engineer who will be our “Voice of Quality” . You’ll be working with external partners, and hardware suppliers to evaluate electrical, thermal, and mechanical characteristics of field failures in order to determine root cause. This includes working cross-functionally with teams to implement corrective actions at the factory and in the field. You’ll also develop sustainable failure analysis processes, develop metrics, and publish dashboards as hardware scales to meet its customer needs.

Required Skills:

  • Develop and run quality control systems with a focus on hardware field performance.

  • Design and deploy comprehensive field diagnostic systems, field service procedures, vendor RMA testing, and systematic failure analysis.

  • Analyze and debug a variety of electrical (PCBAs, semiconductor chips, power circuitry, etc.) and mechanical components (sheet metal and plastics).

  • Reproduce and analyze the root cause of the failures and work with engineering and quality teams to identify containment and/or corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with external vendors and internal hardware engineers, software engineers, and manufacturing teams to understand system architecture to analyze hardware failures.

  • Create and implement early field failure analysis (EFFA) and ongoing failure analysis processes for shipping and sustained products and components.

  • Analyze failures, create dashboards, and provide guidance to improve factory and field quality processes, reliability testing, and future designs. Use statistical methods to analyze, monitor, and resolve field quality issues and improve hardware performance.

  • Monitor hardware field quality performance by component across different product lines.

  • Create detailed failure reports, communicate findings to a wide audience, and partner with cross-functional teams on developing strategies to mitigate risks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering.

  • 5+ years of hands-on failure analysis experience with data center, enterprise, industrial, telecommunications, or consumer grade products.

  • Familiarity with electronics failure mechanisms and knowledge of reliability and risk management.

  • Hands-on experience with failure analysis techniques with understanding of product quality evaluation and control principles.

  • Experience with electrical and mechanical instrumentation and tools.

  • Experience writing failure analysis reports and presentations.

  • Experience working with manufacturing facilities and assemblies and understanding of Six Sigma principles.

  • Project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Interpersonal skills.

  • Travel up to 20% of the time to supplier’s sites.

  • Experience with JMP, MiniTab, or other SPC tools.

  • Experience with Tableau or similar visualization tools.
