As a switch features engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing features that improve the reliability, simplicity, and performance of our switching products.You will have the opportunity to work across our stack developing software that spans from device drivers and routing code all the way up to our distributed, cloud-hosted backend. Example projects for a Switch Features Engineer:

  • Implementing or extending one of the core networking features in our products, such as dynamic routing with OSPF, IPv6, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) or Dynamic ARP Inspection (DAI)

  • Implement advanced troubleshooting tools such as STP Anomaly Detection

  • Exploiting hardware capabilities for advanced control-plane policing of traffic

  • Implementing Systems Manager (SM) Sentry support for switches

You are an ideal candidate if you:

  • Are fluent in C and C++ Have 2-5 years of experience writing professional production code

  • Have working knowledge of core network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP)

  • Experience working with and writing concurrent programs

  • Understanding of OS fundamentals and experience working in both kernel space and user space

  • Have effective communication skills and a strong ability to collaborate with others

  • Are self-motivated and willing to learn new things and take on new challenges

Bonus points for:

  • Experience building cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g. web applications)

  • Scripting skills in Ruby or Python

  • Understanding of switch related protocols (e.g. STP) and network security fundamentals

  • Experience working with version control, specifically Git
