The Business Entity

Cisco Common Services (CSG) is at the forefront of developing the platforms and applications which drive Cisco’s enterprise networking portfolio. The Director of Engineering will be an execution-oriented, collaborative, and innovative leader responsible for the software architecture, engineering, integration and innovation for the Security Policy and Access products.

Key Responsibilities

The specific role is focused on driving a team of engineers who handle technical escalation for the business. This leadership role will encompass cross-functional leadership with technical support, advanced services, engineering teams (product and solution test), product management and account teams and customers. With escalations management as the primary goal, the Director will also be a focus point for driving product changes for quality, serviceability and solution test use cases. Good analytical skills will be needed to lead on these secondary goals.

We are looking for an individual to balance strategic process thinking and "rolling up their sleeves" to resolve tactical issues. A successful candidate must be able to challenge the status quo by demonstrating a willingness to re-invent current processes, and embrace change as a challenge. The candidate should possess the ability to make recommendations and influence change across multiple levels of the organization - from individual engineers & managers to senior executive/business leaders. A "go-getter" approach to take on a range of issues will be critical.

The Director will be responsible for:

· Be the engineering focal point for all technical escalations, serviceability and quality initiatives 


· Develop custom tools and processes to enhance productivity 


· Track and report open customer issues, software defects and manage and influence technical resolution. Drive customer issues to resolution.

· Who You'll Work With 
Many cross-functional teams across Cisco. Our worldwide team works with the highest tier of Cisco Technical Support, as well as with Product Management, Manufacturing and the rest of the CSG Engineering team, focusing on Policy and Access standalone product and DNA applications.

· As well, direct meetings with account team and customers on specific escalation or product quality discussions will be required.

· This position reports to the VP of Security Policy and Access.

This position requires an individual who is comfortable communicating technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner and who enjoys working with cross-functional teams.

These are our minimum requirements for this position.
12+ years of technical experience in the workforce, including managing software engineers.

A BS in computer science or engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Highly technical knowledge of network architecture and troubleshooting.

Understanding of software development and best practices, including code review and troubleshooting


Candidate should be comfortable managing challenging customer engagements
Serve as a mentor, knowledge resource, and escalation point for employees; Build credibility and trust within the group


Strong knowledge of and experience with networking and security technology. 
Additionally, having good working knowledge of a broad spectrum of programing languages and scripting languages (C/C++/Objective-C/Python, Swift, Java, assembler language) is helpful.
